JPG or JPEG
JPG is the preferred format for most artwork photographs.
Use JPG for:
paintings
sculptures
ceramics
textile works
photographs of installations
framed artworks
general artwork documentation
JPG files usually provide good image quality with manageable file sizes.
Use the highest practical quality setting when exporting the image.
PNG
PNG may be used for:
digital illustrations
graphic works
artworks with text
images requiring transparency
images with very sharp lines or flat areas of colour
PNG files may be considerably larger than JPG files.
WebP
WebP provides good image quality with smaller file sizes and may be suitable for online use.
However, JPG remains the safest and most widely supported format for submissions.
Unless otherwise requested, we recommend submitting artwork images as high-quality JPG files.
